Side Effects & Rare Complications

The IPCL implantation is a surgical procedure, and as such, it carries potential side effects and serious risks. You should discuss these risks with your eye surgeon.
Here are some of the main side effects and very rare complications that may happen after the procedure.

Mild and temporary side effects

Temporary Discomfort
Mild irritation, redness, or a foreign body sensation in the eye.
Glare & Halos
Some patients might notice halos or glare around lights, especially at night, which improve over time.
Light Sensitivity
The eyes may be more sensitive to bright light post-surgery but gradually adjust within a few weeks.
Mild Dryness
Some patients might experience temporary dryness, which can be managed with lubricating eye drops and improves within a few weeks.

Rare Complications

Increased Intraocular Pressure (IOP)
In some cases, the lens may cause elevated eye pressure. Regular check-ups will be required with your doctor to manage this.
Cataract Development
The implanted lens, if incorrectly placed or in close contact with the natural lens, may increase the risk of early cataract formation.
Infections
Although uncommon, improper hygiene can lead to infections, requiring medical treatment.
Night Vision Issues
A small percentage of patients might experience night vision problems, such as difficulty seeing in dim lighting.
Lens Rotation
A small percentage of patients might experience rotation of the lens which results in reduced quality of vision. Realignment or exchange of the IPCL may be necessary to correct the rotation.
